Octomore 07.1 Islay Single Malt Whisky 5 Year Old · 2010 Vintage
Out of stock
Another Octomore by Bruichladdich. This is matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and is peated to a whopping 208ppm.
96.5 points Jim Murray's Whisky Bible (Highest score for an Octomore release)
" A gargantuan malt which will make short work of the feint hearted. This, also was the whisky which Islay whisky maker par excellence Jim Mcewen decided to bow out on."
Natural Colour, non chill filtered and made from Scottish Barley.
One of the most approachable of the Octomore releases and as always do not let the PPM levels fool you into thinking this is just about the peat, it is much more complex and nuanced than you would expect from a 5 year old malt.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Light straw-gold with a luminous, sun-kissed glow; a natural, unadulterated hue that hints at honeyed edges around the rim.
Nose
Fresh barley meets sea spray, lemon thyme and balm, pear drops and almond pastry. A subtle hospital/bandage note gives way to soapy-fresh peat smoke, rounded by vanilla fudge, while mineral, wet-sand Islay echoes linger with a minty lift.
Palate
Lemon boiled sweets and poached pears in syrup give way to vanilla pod, clove, and leather. Greek honey yoghurt laces the chewy smoke, with a peppery-grapefruit pith mouthfeel and a mojito-like lift that keeps the palate bright.
Finish
Dry and sappy vanilla lingers with salty citrus and faint ouzo notes. Smoked melon and lemon balm rise, intertwined with smoked barley and fresh spicy oatmeal, finishing with a long, peppery oak that keeps the peat poised and refined.
