Octomore 06.1 Scottish Barley Islay Single Malt Whisky 5 Year Old · 2008 Vintage
In stock
This 2013 Octomore release has been produced by using only Scottish barley and is peated at 167 PPM so you would think this would be drowning in peat but the ppm level is pre distillation so it is actually more elegant and complex that you have any right to expect at only 5 years old and at this strength. The nose alone will take you for ever to decipher! this is actually very approachable despite being so heavily peated and shows truly epic levels of complexity.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Pale gold with a delicate sunlit amber sheen.
Nose
A dense plume of peat smoke swathes warm barley, with sea-salted brine and iodine lending a maritime bite. Sherry-cask fruits—raisin, fig, orange zest—coexist with cocoa, espresso and a touch of vanilla, while a lacquered, resinous sweetness threads through. The aroma is colossal yet refined, inviting patient deciphering and promising depth beyond its youthful edge.
Palate
On the palate, coastal peat and smoked barley strike first, surprisingly elegant. Vanilla sweetness and citrus zest weave through the smoke, with peppery spice and mineral depth giving ballast. The finish is long, refined and saline, a powerful Islay that remains poised and approachable at five years.
Finish
Long, elegant finish of refined peat smoke, fused with sea-salt brine and a whisper of vanilla. The warmth lingers with oak and gentle spice, slowly fading into a subtle, sweet mineral glow.
