About Clase Azul
Clase Azul Tequila is a luxury tequila brand from Jalisco, Mexico, known for both its high-quality spirit and its iconic hand-painted ceramic bottles. Made from 100% Blue Weber agave grown at high altitudes, it is traditionally crafted - slow-cooked in brick ovens, double-distilled, and, for aged expressions, matured in oak barrels.
Founded in 1997 by Arturo Lomelí, Clase Azul sets out to blend meticulous tequila craft with Mexico’s artistic heritage. Mature Tequilana Weber blue agave grown in Los Altos de Jalisco is slow-roasted for 72 hours in traditional stone ovens, milled, fermented with proprietary yeast and twice distilled in copper pot stills. The spirit ages in American-whisky or sherry-seasoned oak barrels before filling the distillery’s signature decanters – each ceramic vessel is moulded, fired and hand-painted by Mazahua artisans in the ceramic town of Santa María Canchesdá, making every bottle a functional piece of folk art. A dedicated foundation supports local education and cultural projects, underscoring the brand’s commitment to community and craftsmanship.
The core range opens with bright, pepper-and-citrus Plata and the globally admired Reposado, whose eight months in bourbon casks add waves of vanilla, hazelnut and soft spice. Gold is a luxurious joven marrying Plata and eight-year añejo finished in ex-PX sherry and French oak, while the deep, fig-and-tobacco Añejo rests for 25 months in American oak. Ultra, an extra-añejo finished in sherry casks and bottled in a black-lacquered decanter decorated with 24-carat gold, tops the tequila line-up. Clase Azul Mezcal Durango and Mezcal Guerrero showcase wild Cenizo and Papalote agaves, roasted in underground pits and aged briefly to preserve earthy smoke and tropical-fruit sweetness. Annual Día de Muertos releases, Riqueza Cultural editions and artist collaborations provide highly sought-after collectables that highlight regional motifs and advanced ceramic techniques.
With its distinctive bottles and exceptional liquid, Clase Azul has become a symbol of luxury and artistry in the world of fine spirits, beloved by collectors and connoisseurs around the globe.
