Vintage Champagne must spend at least three years ageing in the producer’s cellars before release, although many leading houses mature their wines for considerably longer. This extended ageing can develop greater depth and complexity, with flavours such as brioche, toasted nuts, honey, dried fruit and spice appearing alongside the wine’s original fruit and acidity.

Because each vintage reflects the growing conditions of a particular year, styles can vary noticeably from one release to another. Some vintages are known for freshness and precision, while others produce richer, more powerful wines, making Vintage Champagne particularly interesting for collectors, long-term ageing and comparison across different harvests.
