Highlands
The Highlands form the largest Scotch whisky region geographically, covering a vast area of mainland Scotland from Perthshire towards the far north and west coast. Under the Scotch Whisky Association’s regional classification, the Highland region also encompasses Scotland’s whisky-producing islands other than Islay, bringing distilleries on Skye, Orkney, Mull, Jura and other islands within the wider Highland designation. The 2026 operating-distillery list places more than 50 working distilleries within this broad region, making it one of the most diverse areas of Scotch whisky production.
