About Ardmore
(ARD-moor) Ardmore was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher to supply peated malt for Teacher’s blends, and it remains one of the more distinctive Highland distilleries for that reason. While peat is more commonly associated with Islay, Ardmore built its name on a smokier Highland style, combining earthy peat, gentle spice and a slightly dry, robust character. The distillery is based at Kennethmont and is now part of Suntory Global Spirits.
That peated house style is what tends to set Ardmore apart. For years it was best known as a blending malt rather than a single malt in its own right, but official and independent bottlings have made its character much easier to explore. The result is a Highland whisky with a clear smoky identity, but one that usually feels more restrained, earthy and woodsmoke-led than the coastal peat styles found further west.
