(glen-GOY’n) Glengoyne was founded in 1833 and is one of the few distilleries to pair a Highland spirit with warehouses that sit across the Highland Line in the Lowlands. Originally known as Burnfoot Distillery, it developed from earlier illicit distilling on the site before becoming Glengoyne, and it has been owned by Ian Macleod Distillers since 2003.

What sets Glengoyne apart is the combination of that gentle house style with a long-standing focus on sherry cask maturation. Rather than relying on peat, the distillery’s character is built around orchard fruit, malt richness and careful oak influence, which has helped give the range a distinctive place among Highland single malts. Its location just north of Glasgow has also made it one of Scotland’s most accessible distilleries, but the whisky itself remains defined by patience, tradition and a style that is notably different from many more heavily peated or more robust Highland malts.
