(ard-na-muh-can) Ardnamurchan was opened by Adelphi in 2014 at Glenbeg on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, one of the most westerly parts of the British mainland. Adelphi had built its reputation as an independent bottler before creating its own distillery, with Ardnamurchan designed as a modern West Highland producer shaped by a remote coastal location and a strong focus on sustainability.

Adelphi had built its reputation as an independent bottler before creating its own distillery, with Ardnamurchan designed as a modern West Highland producer shaped by a remote coastal location and a strong focus on sustainability.

The distillery produces both peated and unpeated spirit, with its peated malt usually specified at 30ppm and some heavier 80ppm spirit also laid down for future releases. Its whisky is built around gentle peat smoke, oily texture, honeyed fruit and coastal salinity, with bottlings presented without chill filtration or added colour.

Ardnamurchan’s environmental approach is unusually central to the site. Power and heat come from local renewables, including hydro-electricity, solar energy and a biomass boiler fuelled by local wood chip, while draff and pot ale are recycled locally. The first Ardnamurchan single malt was released in 2020, followed by the core AD/ expression, cask strength releases, sherry cask bottlings, single casks and the developing 10 Year Old release.
