About Teaninich
(TEA-an-in-ich) Teaninich was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro on his estate near Alness in the Highlands, making it one of the earlier legal distilleries of the Scotch whisky era. Ownership changed several times during the 19th and early 20th centuries before the distillery passed into DCL in 1933, placing it within the business that eventually became part of Diageo.
Most of Teaninich’s production has long gone into blends rather than official single malt releases, which is why the name is better known to whisky enthusiasts than to casual drinkers. It is also unusual in production terms for operating without a traditional mash tun, and the best-known official bottling remains the Flora & Fauna 10 Year Old, which gives a good sense of the distillery’s crisp, dry Highland style.
