About Tomatin
(Tom-AH-tin) Established 1897, the Tomatin distillery can be found in the very remote Highland countryside about 25 miles south of Inverness. Like many distilleries over the years, Tomatin has experienced its share of closures. In February 1986 two Japanese companies (Takara Shuzo and Okura & Co.) purchased the distillery, of which Takara Shuzo proudly remains the majority shareholder.
Founded in 1897 on a windswept plateau south of Inverness, Tomatin grew into one of Scotland’s largest single-malt distilleries, yet its style remains remarkably soft and approachable. Pure water from the Alt-na-Frith burn, gentle fermentation and twelve tall copper stills create a silky spirit laced with heather honey, baked apple and malty biscuit. Maturation takes place on site in a high-altitude warehouse complex, where cool mountain air encourages lengthy ageing in first-fill bourbon barrels, oloroso sherry butts and an array of wine and rum casks selected by Master Blender Graham Eunson.
The core range opens with bourbon-forward Legacy (NAS) and the orchard-fresh 43 % ABV 12 Year Old, followed by 14 Year Port Cask with red-fruit depth and 18 Year sherry-rich elegance. The 30 and 36 Year vintages unveil tropical fruit, leather and polished oak, while limited “French Collection” and “Italian Collection” releases explore Cognac, Sauternes, Marsala and Amarone casks. Distillery-exclusive single barrels and cask-strength Warehouse 6 editions cater to collectors, and the separately distilled, lightly peated Cù Bòcan line (Signature, Creation series, 15 Year) offers a smoky counterpoint.
