About Oban
(Oh-bun) One of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries, having been established in 1794 by John and Hugh Stevenson, who were also largely responsible for the creation of the coastal fishing village of Oban itself. Almost a region of its own as it is isolated in the western highlands and has a lightly peaty coastal house style.
One of Diageo’s classic malts that started in 1988 to represent the Western Highlands and only produces 870,000 litres per year (easily half the output of any of the others in the range) only a small range of core official bottles exist with the 14 year old and distillers edition that is finished in Montilla Fino sherry casks.
