Every year since 2001, Diageo have released a series of Special Releases featuring rare, limited edition whiskies from some of Scotland’s finest distilleries. The 2021 Special Releases are the 20th set in this highly collectable series, and includes 8 Single Malt whiskies, bottled at cask strength, and released in limited quantities. The 2021 series has been titled “Legends Untold” and features striking illustrations and design work from digital illustrator Ken Taylor.
This rich, smooth, full bodied Oban has an unmistakeably maritime nose with notes of seaweed and sea spray, alongside aromatic oils, citrus fruits, and a whisper of smoke. The palate offers a lovely balance of sweet fruits, honey and vanilla with savoury flavours of smoked fish, cracked black pepper, and woody spice.

Colour
Deep amber-gold with a coppery glow and a hint of mahogany at the edges.
Nose
A maritime nose opens with seaweed and sea spray, balanced by aromatic oils and bright citrus zest, with a delicate whisper of smoke curling from the glass.
Palate
On the palate, a lush, full-bodied profile reveals sweet fruits, honey and vanilla, layered with savoury notes of smoked fish and cracked black pepper. Woody spice threads through the palate, delivering depth and a touch of maritime salinity that lingers with a warm, oaken finish.
Finish
Long, maritime finish with sea spray and brine lingering into a warm echo of smoke, honeyed fruit and vanilla, followed by cracked pepper and woody spice as the voyage fades to oak.
