About Balblair
(bal-BLAIR) Balblair was founded in 1790 by John Ross at Edderton in the Northern Highlands, overlooking the Dornoch Firth. The distillery remained with the Ross family through much of the 19th century, before being rebuilt in 1894 closer to the railway while continuing to use water from the Allt Dearg burn. Later owners included Hiram Walker, and Inver House Distillers acquired Balblair in 1996.
Balblair has long been associated with a patient, fruit-led Highland style, shaped by traditional production and maturation in a quiet, coastal Highland setting.
For many years its official bottlings were released by vintage rather than age statement, a distinctive approach that changed in 2019 with the launch of a core range including 12, 15, 18 and 25 Year Old expressions.
