Tasting Notes

Colour

Mahogany.

Nose

Stewed raisin entwines with medjool dates and a soft kiss of anise, while fresh ginger lends brightness, opening toward orange peel and aged leather.

Palate

Autumnal spices and fruitcake are balanced by white pepper. Blackcurrent and roasted coffee beans come to the fore alongside charred oak.

Finish

Full and long finish with lingering citrus and plum skin.

Balblair
(bal-BLAIR) Balblair was founded in 1790 by John Ross at Edderton in the Northern Highlands, overlooking the Dornoch Firth. The distillery remained with the Ross family through much of the 19th century, before being rebuilt in 1894 closer to the railway while continuing to use water from the Allt Dearg burn. Later owners included Hiram Walker, and Inver House Distillers acquired Balblair in 1996.
