Tasting Notes

Nose

Millionaire shortbread, seaweed, peppermint, floral (past their best), lemon sherbet, chalk, wet mineral/stone, cut grass, salted caramel, wood varnish.

Palate

Funk, medicinal, cinnamon, earthy, mushroom, lemon zest, plum, pear, toasted nuts, marmalade, high roast coffee, marzipan, ginger, toast, citric acid, cooking apples.

Finish

Oak tannins, cooked apples, sour apple sweets, malt, charred oak, stone fruits (apricot), cocoa nibs, burnt toast.

Balblair
(bal-BLAIR) Balblair was founded in 1790 by John Ross at Edderton in the Northern Highlands, overlooking the Dornoch Firth. The distillery remained with the Ross family through much of the 19th century, before being rebuilt in 1894 closer to the railway while continuing to use water from the Allt Dearg burn. Later owners included Hiram Walker, and Inver House Distillers acquired Balblair in 1996.
