This expression is an artful combination of single malts from the silent Hanyu distillery, Chichibu and a selection of Scottish distilleries. This harmonious fusion enjoyed a finishing period in French oak wine casks; this type of cask adds a floral and slightly nutty character to the whisky with a sustained fruit character.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with copper-bronze highlights and a wine-warm, honey-gold glow.

Nose

Floral and fruit-forward on the nose, with perfumed white blossoms and ripe pear, peach and apricot. Nutty hints of almond and hazelnut mingle with a touch of vanilla-spice from the French oak, keeping the fruit lush and sustaining.

Palate

Silky, medium-bodied on the palate, orchard fruits—pear and apple—are lifted by a delicate floral lift. A nuanced almond nuttiness and gentle vanilla emerge from the French oak wine cask, adding restrained sweetness. Fruit stays bright, lightly spiced, with a polished, lingering finish.

Finish

Floral notes linger into a long, nutty finish, where orchard fruit sweetness persists against a soft French oak. Almond and vanilla weave with a delicate spice, leaving a refined, lingering glow that hints at sun-kissed fruit and subtle sweetness.

Chichibu
(chee-CHEE-boo) Chichibu was founded by Ichiro Akuto and began distilling in 2008 in Saitama Prefecture, at a time when new Japanese whisky distilleries were still rare. Akuto had already made his name by rescuing casks from his family’s closed Hanyu distillery and bottling them as Ichiro’s Malt, so Chichibu arrived with a strong sense of continuity as well as a fresh start.
