Chichibu distillery was founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, and has been operational from 2008, it was the first new Japanese distillery since 1973. Ichiro Akuto is the grandson of the founder of the lost distillery at Hanyu.

Chichibu is located near the site of the former Hanyu distillery.

This is a complex and harmonious blend that features whiskies from America, Canada, Scotland, and Ireland in addition to whiskies from Chichibu Distillery. The result is an expressive and balanced whisky that features notes of malted barley, apples, and subtle cinnamon, finishing with pears and a whisper of milk chocolate.

Colour

Golden amber with a warm honeyed glow and subtle copper undertones.

Nose

Bright aromas of malted barley and crisp apples, with a subtle cinnamon lift that hints at the blended world character.

Palate

Silky and balanced, the palate opens with malted barley sweetness, yielding to crisp apples and a subtle kiss of cinnamon. Mid-palate spice lingers, then ripe pears emerge, finished with a whisper of milk chocolate. Creamy texture with refined oak and a worldly, harmonious complexity.

Finish

Pear notes linger, delicate and orchard-bright, fading into a whisper of milk chocolate. A subtle cinnamon echo threads through the finish, leaving a silky, fruit-kissed tail.

Chichibu
(chee-CHEE-boo) Chichibu was founded by Ichiro Akuto and began distilling in 2008 in Saitama Prefecture, at a time when new Japanese whisky distilleries were still rare. Akuto had already made his name by rescuing casks from his family’s closed Hanyu distillery and bottling them as Ichiro’s Malt, so Chichibu arrived with a strong sense of continuity as well as a fresh start.
