Chichibu distillery was founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, and has been operational from 2008, it was the first new Japanese distillery since 1973. Ichiro Akuto is the grandson of the founder of the lost distillery at Hanyu.

Chichibu is located near the site of the former Hanyu distillery.

This Japanese single malt whisky has been matured in a combination of red wine casks to give incredible depth and complexity to the spirit. It has notes of rich cinnamon and clove with a touch of menthol, before finishing with rich milk chocolate.

(chee-CHEE-boo) Chichibu was founded by Ichiro Akuto and began distilling in 2008 in Saitama Prefecture, at a time when new Japanese whisky distilleries were still rare. Akuto had already made his name by rescuing casks from his family’s closed Hanyu distillery and bottling them as Ichiro’s Malt, so Chichibu arrived with a strong sense of continuity as well as a fresh start.
