A Sherry matured Port Ellen from G&M. Another legendary Connoisseurs Choice bottling. Matured in refill Sherry Butts for nearly a quarter of a century, this is a delicately smooth and complex Islay whisky.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with coppery-gold sheen and a touch of mahogany.

Nose

Coastal peat and sea-salt breeze, tempered by refined sherry. Dried figs and plums mingle with cocoa and toasted almond, while a whisper of orange zest and spice adds a final, elegant lift. Smooth, complex, and quietly smoky.

Palate

Silky on the palate with restrained Islay peat, gently shadowed by sherry sweetness. Dried fig and raisin mingle with orange peel, cocoa and toasted oak, a refined, maritime finish lingering long.

Finish

Long and refined, the finish carries a whisper of peat, braided with dark sherry fruit and cocoa. Dried fig and almond linger as toasted oak and spice emerge, slowly fading to a dry, nutty finish.

(Port-Ellen) As far as many people are concerned, Port Ellen is one of the great lost distilleries of Scotland. Port Ellen Whisky was founded in 1825 on the south shore of Port Ellen Islay by A. K. Mackay & Co. Closed in 1983 after being mothballed between 1930 and 1967. And with three Islay distilleries on the hands of the owners Port Ellen was the one to close with Caol Ila and Lagavulin surviving the 1980s closures.
