Port Ellen (silent) Untold Stories - The Spirit Safe Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 39 Year Old · 1978 Vintage

The oldest global release of Port Ellen whisky. This marks the return of Port Ellen bottlings from Diageo after a years hiatus. The Untold Stories releases are set to be a regular release of some of the last remaining stocks of the distillery. The first release, called The Spirit Safe, is a combination of ex - bourbon and ex - European sherry casks, bottled at cask strength and stated as a 39 year old whisky.

Only 1500 bottles of this highly sought after and collectable Islay malt will be available globally, and the bottle is beautifully presented in a wooden display case with a bespoke double key opening mechanism.

This whisky is delicate on the nose with a much more restrained nose of soft sweet peat, slight salinity and subtle tropical fruits of pineapple and melon. The palate is smooth, gentle and sweet, with ginger nut, sultanas, slight sherried nuances and more tropical yellow fruits such as melon and passionfruit. The finish is textured with sweetness giving way to a saline and smokey ending.
