Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with coppery highlights and a mahogany glow, a luxurious hue hinting at age and careful oak maturation.

Nose

Dark chocolate aromas mingle with ginger and cinnamon spice, as blackcurrant yields to medjool dates and sweet vanilla pod.

Palate

On the palate, rich fruitcake anchors the sweetness, opening to baked apples and a generous, sweet smoke. Peanut brittle lends a nutty crunch beside dark cherry, with a peppery spice that lingers into a warm, lasting finish.

Finish

A long, full finish that lingers with dried fruit and bonfire embers.

Port Ellen (silent)
(Port-Ellen) As far as many people are concerned, Port Ellen is one of the great lost distilleries of Scotland. Port Ellen Whisky was founded in 1825 on the south shore of Port Ellen Islay by A. K. Mackay & Co. Closed in 1983 after being mothballed between 1930 and 1967. And with three Islay distilleries on the hands of the owners Port Ellen was the one to close with Caol Ila and Lagavulin surviving the 1980s closures.
