A fascinating insight into what Sherry cask aged Single malt would have tasted like in your Grandparents day and also a Mortlach distilled with old coal fired stills and peated barley. A wonderful timepiece of a malt that is still ticking along nicely.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep mahogany with coppery amber glow, a warm, aged chestnut core that shimmers at the rim—echoing decades of sherry-cask maturation.
Nose
Old leather boots from a coal mine mingle with malt loaf and black plum jam, while resinous wood, tobacco leaf and minty eucalyptus lend a cool bite. Blackcurrant cordial, coffee grinds and aged library books drift through a black treacle sweetness and cured-ham warmth.
Palate
Malty and savoury, with old leather and coal-tar smoke, wax candles and sultana butter. Nut shells, dark mint and blackcurrant mingle with herbal and copper-toned wood, remarkably cohesive after five decades. Thick, oily body, like beef stock/consommé, finishing with smoke and mocha.
Finish
Stewed black fruit lingers with aromatic wood and tea-chest spice, while nut brittle and old-fashioned toffee echo in the background. Menthol and eucalyptus thread through old sherry wood, coal-fire smoke, and a savory, dried-leather depth of cured meat.
