Tasting Notes

Nose

Voluptuous peat smoke swirls with coastal iodine and sea spray, deepened by sherry sweetness. Dried fig, raisin and plum mingle with dark chocolate, leather and tobacco, while orange zest and vanilla threads lift the perfume. A mineral coastal backbone lingers, revealing the 35-year maturity in every measured inhale.

(Port-Ellen) As far as many people are concerned, Port Ellen is one of the great lost distilleries of Scotland. Port Ellen Whisky was founded in 1825 on the south shore of Port Ellen Islay by A. K. Mackay & Co. Closed in 1983 after being mothballed between 1930 and 1967. And with three Islay distilleries on the hands of the owners Port Ellen was the one to close with Caol Ila and Lagavulin surviving the 1980s closures.
