Tasting Notes

Colour

Rich amber with coppery depth and honey-gold highlights; a warm, translucent glow.

Nose

Raisin, dates and figs dominate, with sultana and toffee apples adding texture and depth. A dark, syrupy viscosity from the raisins, edged by dry ginger and soft cinnamon. Dark chocolate lends majesty, while a whisper of vanilla sweetness lingers in the background.

Palate

Heavy and sumptuous, a rich fruitcake of raisin, dates and figs with apples, sultanas and orange, then ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and a trace of clove. Oak notes arrive as velvet—soft, chic and impeccably integrated, lending a refined sweetness that lingers with quiet warmth.

Finish

Silky-smooth and long, a full, velvet finish that lingers gracefully on the palate.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
