The third of the incredibly popular Port Ellen annual releases. Distilled in 1979 and bottled 24 years later in 2003, this has been bottled at cask strength and limited to 9,000 bottles. A seldom-seen whisky that is immensely rare and collectible.

Grassy and lemon zest aromas lead to a powerful palate with oak and pepper along with lots of maritime and smoky notes. An extremely long finish to round things off.

Colour

Deep amber with coppery-bronze edges and a warm, honeyed glow.

Nose

Grassy and lemon zest aromas rise from the glass, bright and invigorating on the nose.

Palate

Powerful palate with bold oak and pepper, edged by maritime brine and peat-smoked depth. Grassy freshness and citrus zest brighten the mid-palate, delivering a long, warming mouthfeel that lingers with mineral, coastal character.

Finish

An extraordinarily long finish where coastal peat, brine and pepper linger with warm oak, a salt-kissed smoke fading slowly into a peppery echo.

Port Ellen (silent)
(Port-Ellen) As far as many people are concerned, Port Ellen is one of the great lost distilleries of Scotland. Port Ellen Whisky was founded in 1825 on the south shore of Port Ellen Islay by A. K. Mackay & Co. Closed in 1983 after being mothballed between 1930 and 1967. And with three Islay distilleries on the hands of the owners Port Ellen was the one to close with Caol Ila and Lagavulin surviving the 1980s closures.
