A rare early Ardbeg, this 16 year old was distilled in 1969 and bottled at 40% ABV. From the distillery’s classic era, it predates Ardbeg’s modern revival and is prized for both its scarcity and historical significance.
Expect a refined style of Islay peat, with soft smoke, coastal notes, dried fruits and mature oak. Lightly smoky, balanced and elegant rather than aggressive, it is valued as a collectible example of old-style Ardbeg.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a warm mahogany glow.
Nose
Soft Islay peat and coastal smoke waft with sea-salt nuance, a faint iodine kiss, and air from the shore. Dried fruit notes—fig, prune, raisin—unfold with mature oak and gentle vanilla. The aroma is refined and balanced, not aggressive, echoing the classic era—smoky, maritime, and elegantly aged.
Palate
On the palate, Islay peat glides in with soft smoke and maritime nuance, layered with dried fruits and mature oak. Lightly smoky and elegantly balanced, it stays refined rather than aggressive, letting coastal salt and a touch of sweetness mingle with subtle spice. A lingering iodine‑tinged warmth and polished oak finish completes the experience.
Finish
Softly peated and elegantly restrained, the finish lingers with coastal brine, dried-fruit sweetness and mature oak. The smoke stays refined, fading to a salt-kissed, oak-inflected afterglow.
