Port Ellen (silent) Old Malt Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky 25 Year Old · 1980 Vintage
Out of stock
A 1980 vintage bottling of Islay single malt, from the island's legendary silent distillery, Port Ellen. This rare 25 year old Islay malt was distilled at Port Ellen in November 1980 and bottled, for Douglas Laing's 'The Old Malt Cask' range, in April 2006. One of just 201 single cask bottles filled at 50% ABV.
The Old Malt Cask series is one of the most established independent labels on the market. It was launched by Douglas Laing in 1998 and bottled by them until 2013 when the brand became part of the Hunter Laing portfolio instead.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with coppery undertones and a touch of mahogany at the rim.
Nose
Dense peat smoke, iodine and sea-salt fringe the nose, echoing Islay shores. Beneath, vanilla-laced barley, dried fruits and a whisper of leather mingle with cocoa-kissed oak, revealing the quiet grandeur of long maturation in a single cask.
Palate
On the palate, a resonant, smoky richness unfolds with coastal peat and medicinal iodine tempered by luscious sherry sweetness. Dried fig and dark plum mingle with cocoa, toasted almond and smooth vanilla, while briny, peppery spice and oak backbone carry the finish. At 50% ABV the dram remains poised—silky, persistent, and unmistakably Port Ellen.
Finish
Long, peaty finish with sea-salt brine and coastal iodine. Smoke lingers softly, giving way to hints of dark chocolate, dried fruit and leather. A warm, resinous sweetness persists, tapering to a refined, elegant echo.
