Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper-gold with warm amber highlights.
Nose
Peat smoke floods the aroma, braided with maritime brine, iodine and a whisper of tar. Ripe vanilla and toasted oak bring gentle sweetness and citrus lift, while leather, tobacco and cocoa add depth. At cask strength, the scent is bold, coastal and unmistakably Port Ellen.
Palate
Powerful cask-strength Port Ellen coats the palate with thick, oily peat, sea-salt and iodine, framed by vanilla-kissed American oak. Dark fruit, cocoa and espresso emerge, while spice and citrus lift the mid-palate, finishing long with peat, ash and pepper.
Finish
An enduring maritime finish of sea-salt smoke and peat, slowly yielding to vanilla-tinged oak with cocoa and a whisper of leather. At cask strength, warmth lingers, leaving a long, resinous trail of smoke, mineral salt and white pepper that invites the next sip.
