It was bottled at natural cask strength in November 2012

Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich notes of overripe grape and a little calves leather. Barley malt, hints of light citrus and intense spice.

Palate

Rich, salt caramel-led palate with big, fresh slabs of peat to the fore. Very citrus-rich, with a touch of mahogany, maple syrup and smouldering malt.

Finish

The finish is all about freshly zested lemons and black pepper.

(Port-Ellen) As far as many people are concerned, Port Ellen is one of the great lost distilleries of Scotland. Port Ellen Whisky was founded in 1825 on the south shore of Port Ellen Islay by A. K. Mackay & Co. Closed in 1983 after being mothballed between 1930 and 1967. And with three Islay distilleries on the hands of the owners Port Ellen was the one to close with Caol Ila and Lagavulin surviving the 1980s closures.
