Port Ellen (silent) Connoisseurs Choice Single Malt Scotch Whisky 18 Year Old · 1981 Vintage
Out of stock
For some unknown reason 1981 vintages of Port Ellen are becoming extremely rare, there are plenty from 1980 and even more from 1982. We guess that 1981 must have been a quiet year, the distillery closed in 1983.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper-amber with a burnished mahogany core and warm reddish-gold edges.
Nose
A coastal peat shimmer with sea-salt lifts a rich sherried core: dark cherries, fig and raisin mingle with cocoa, toffee and toasted oak. Subtle tobacco, leather and iodine echo Islay harbours, delivering a poised, multi-layered aroma that promises depth and old-world elegance.
Palate
On the palate, Port Ellen’s Islay peat unfolds as maritime smoke—talc, sea spray and citrus zest riding a velvety mouthfeel. Sherry-cask depth brings dark fruit, fig and cocoa, woven with vanilla and spice. The finish is long and refined, with ash and pepper and a whisper of sweetness lingering.
Finish
Long and maritime, the finish unfurls with cresting peat smoke, sea salt and iodine, leaving a briny, resinous glow. Subtle notes of dark fruit and cocoa drift in, fading to toasted oak and ash as the smoke lingers gently on the palate.
