Tasting Notes

Colour

Golden amber with a warm honeyed glow.

Nose

Delicately peated with a whisper of smoke, carried on a sea-breeze freshness. Creamy vanilla and honeyed malt form the base, while crisp orchard fruits and a hint of citrus zest lift the aroma. A subtle mineral edge and light spice add poise to this velvety, approachable nose.

Palate

Silky, creamy with a refined whisper of peat. Vanilla, honeyed malt and citrus peel unfold smoothly, framed by light oak and a trace of coastal brine. Subtle spice warms the finish, leaving a clean, softly toasted afterglow.

Finish

Long, silky finish where creamy malt carries a whisper of peat, ending in vanilla custard, almond, and a delicate coastal salt. The sea-breeze hint lingers softly, leaving a refined, maritime glow that persists after the last sip.

Nikka Yoichi
(YOH-ee-chee) Yoichi was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky, on the coast of Hokkaido. Taketsuru had studied whisky-making in Scotland and chose Yoichi for its cool climate, clean air and coastal setting, seeing it as well suited to the robust style of malt whisky he wanted to make. Nikka’s predecessor, Dai Nippon Kaju, was established in July 1934, with construction of Yoichi completed in October of the same year.
