A limited release from The Essence of Suntory series, this Yamazaki Spanish Oak was distilled in 2009 and bottled at cask strength of 56% ABV. The series highlights distinctive cask types and experimental styles within Suntory’s whiskies.

Matured in Spanish oak, it shows dried fruit, dark chocolate, spice and polished oak, with a rich, structured and warming finish.

Nose

Rich notes of sun-dried fruit—figs and raisins—meet dark chocolate shavings, with a lift of spice. Polished oak and a whisper of vanilla smooth the aroma, while a resinous warmth hints at the Spanish oak influence. Elegant, inviting and distinctly premium in its aromatic reserve.

(yah-mah-ZAH-kee) Yamazaki was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii at the foot of Mt. Tennozan, on the outskirts of Kyoto, and is recognised as Japan’s first and oldest malt whisky distillery. Torii chose the site for its soft water and misty climate where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet, believing it could produce a style of whisky better suited to Japanese palates than a straight imitation of Scotch.
