Aged in a refill ex sherry butt for 12 years and bottled at natural cask strength of 63%

A hot and spicy release that needs water for me and does feel like your palate is being nipped at by piranhas!

Tasting Notes

Colour

Rich copper-amber with burnished mahogany undertones and a warm, inviting glow.

Nose

Assertive, mineral and herbal, with dried citrus and musky melon; spicy grape and barley mingle with vanillin oak, finishing with apricot Danish pastries.

Palate

Hot and spicy on the palate, delivering peppery vanilla with dry oak tannins, then butterscotch, custard and honeycomb. Water calms the heat, unveiling floral notes, coconut oil and sugared almonds, for a smoother, lingering sweetness.

Finish

Dark chocolate, peppery sweet oak, hot butterscotch and vanilla ice cream sundae, barley sugar.

Karuizawa (silent)
(ka-roo-ee-ZAH-wa) Karuizawa was founded in 1955 by drinks company Daikoku Budoshu near Mount Asama in Nagano, with production beginning in 1956. Built beside the company’s existing winery, it was created to make malt whisky in a more traditional Scottish style, and over time became known for small stills, wooden washbacks, water from the Asama mountain range, Golden Promise barley and a strong reliance on sherry cask maturation.
