Distillery Bottling

A none age statement single malt from the second of the Nikka owned Japanese distilleries and was called the Sendai distillery until 2001and now named after the Miyagi prefecture where the distillery is located in the north of the main Honshu Island.

Now replaced by a 70cl 45% non age statement version that is LP7069 on our website and is a real black fruit and aromatic spice bomb.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Perfumed and aromatic fruit and oak, black fruit jam, new leather, chocolate orange, toasted walnuts, wood polish.

Palate

Malty chocolate, sweet toasted aromatic spices, waxy orange, some nutty/praline and rich pine resin oak.

Finish

Cocoa powder, cinnamon , all spice, orange oil, toasted vanilla and peppery oak.

Nikka Miyagikyo
(NIK-ah mee-yah-gee-kyoh) Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, a Hiroshima-born brewer’s son who travelled to Scotland in 1918 to study whisky-making. After establishing Yoichi in Hokkaido, Taketsuru completed Miyagikyo in 1969 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, as Nikka’s second distillery and a deliberate contrast to Yoichi’s bolder style.
