Chichibu The Peated 2026 marks the first standalone release of the distillery’s heavily peated single malt since 2022. Produced using malt peated to 50 PPM during Chichibu’s annual peated production period, the whisky brings together more than 40 casks. Maturation took place predominantly in ex-bourbon barrels, supplemented by Oloroso sherry casks and hogsheads re-coopered at Chichibu’s own cooperage. Bottled at 50.5% ABV, the release is limited to 11,000 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Notes of soft peat smoke and toasted baking spices along with burnt caramel and roasted almonds.

Palate

On the palate there is a sweet ginger spice along with honey, banana and cooked apple

Finish

Grassy and green smoky note.

Chichibu
(chee-CHEE-boo) Chichibu was founded by Ichiro Akuto and began distilling in 2008 in Saitama Prefecture, at a time when new Japanese whisky distilleries were still rare. Akuto had already made his name by rescuing casks from his family’s closed Hanyu distillery and bottling them as Ichiro’s Malt, so Chichibu arrived with a strong sense of continuity as well as a fresh start.
