The whisky takes the name Kilkerran because the Glengyle name was already trademarked elsewhere, with “Kilkerran” drawn from Campbeltown’s original place name, Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain.
That history gives Kilkerran a strong place in Campbeltown’s revival, but the whisky itself is just as distinctive. Production runs for only around three months each year, and the distillery splits that time between lightly peated double-distilled spirit, heavily peated runs, plus smaller amounts of unpeated and triple-distilled spirit. The range now includes core bottlings such as the 12 Year Old and 16 Year Old alongside limited releases including Heavily Peated and cask strength editions, giving Kilkerran a style that feels traditional, varied and closely tied to the character of modern Campbeltown whisky.
