White Peak Wire Works - Berry Bros & Rudd - Single Cask #128 Whisky 5 Year Old · 2018 Vintage
Out of stock
Nestled in the verdant Derbyshire hills, Claire and Max Vaughan produce gin and single malt whisky in the industrial setting of a former Victorian wire factory. Alongside their talented team, they use the best of traditional whisky production, while exploring the range of exciting cask types and malting techniques available in the modern era. One interesting diversion from the paradigm is their use of live brewer’s yeast from nearby Thornbridge Brewery, to which they attribute some of the rich, fruity flavours inherent in their new make spirit.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Sunlit amber with honey-gold depth and coppery highlights.
Nose
Intense orchard-fruit aroma—ripe pear and apple, apricot and citrus zest—settled on warm malt and vanilla. The live brewer’s yeast leaves lively esters, weaving soft fruitiness with gentle spice and a faint mineral edge that hints at its Derbyshire roots.
Palate
Full, velvety on the palate with a warming 60.9% ABV. Lush notes of ripe pear, green apple and apricot mingle with honeyed vanilla and a subtle malty backbone. A delicate spice lift—white pepper and clove—drifts through, balancing the fruit-forward sweetness. The texture is lush and mouth-coating, finishing long with fruity richness and a refined, warming glow.
Finish
Long and elegant, the finish unfolds with warm honeyed vanilla and toasted oak, lingering gracefully on the palate. Subtle ripe fruit and spice ebb and flow, leaving a creamy malt sweetness that slowly tapers to a gentle, peppery finish.
