Tasting Notes

Colour

Rich tawny gold with copper-bronze depth and mahogany-tinged glow, revealing amber-ruby hues from tawny port cask maturation.

Nose

Delightfully dessert-forward, the nose opens with Bakewell pudding, milk chocolate and cinder toffee, met by burnt sugar and cinnamon buns. Notes of liquorice all sorts mingle with cherry lozenges, toasted almond and candied ginger, finishing in a ribbon of strawberry jam.

Palate

Silky marzipan with strawberries and cream, tinned peaches and lemon curd weave through vanilla fudge, spearmint and a trace of dark chocolate. Grapefruit zest adds brightness, finishing with a biscuity, iced-bun sweetness that lingers.

Finish

Cherry pie filling and bonfire toffee linger, opening to hibiscus floral sweetness, a whisper of savory biltong, and a cool, resinous note of eucalyptus.

White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 by Max and Claire Vaughan in Ambergate, becoming Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery and the first whisky distillery in the Peak District region. Housed in the former Johnson & Nephew Wire Works on the banks of the River Derwent, within the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has built its identity around a strong sense of Derbyshire provenance and the industrial history of its home.
