Amarone Wine release is a dual maturation of White Peak's lightly peated spirit, initially aged in ex-bourbon narrels, and finished in first fill Amarone wine barriques.

A rich and fruit single malt whisky with a smoky backbone.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber-gold with coppery shimmer and a touch of ruby-kissed mahogany, like liquid sunset with wine-finished warmth.

Nose

Blackcurrant cordial mingles with ripe strawberries and orange oil, a silky underlayer of milk chocolate. A hint of furniture polish adds lacquered warmth, while candied ginger threads through the aroma, finishing with a kiss of wine gums.

Palate

Sultanas, liquorice, maraschino cherries, clove, cinnamon, cranberries and Turkish Delight unfold on the palate.

Finish

Dark chocolate and icing sugar linger, threaded with strawberry lace as a final whisper of freshly roasted coffee grounds the finish. Velvet and sweet, it leaves a warm, chocolate-coffee echo on the palate.

White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 by Max and Claire Vaughan in Ambergate, becoming Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery and the first whisky distillery in the Peak District region. Housed in the former Johnson & Nephew Wire Works on the banks of the River Derwent, within the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has built its identity around a strong sense of Derbyshire provenance and the industrial history of its home.
