Togouchi is a blended Japanese whisky from the producers Chugoku Jozo, who mature their whisky in a tunnel rather than a warehouse. The name comes from where the tunnel is located, in the town of Togouchi, which merged with two other towns to create a larger town called Akiota. This is their no-age-statement expression, the Togouchi Premium Blended Japanese Whisky.2.

Colour

Golden amber with sunlit honey tones and a soft coppery glow.

Nose

Silky, honeyed vanilla and caramel weave with orchard fruit—pear and baked apple—plus almond and white chocolate. A delicate citrus lift from orange zest brightens the bouquet, while a whisper of cedar and a faint, refined smoke hints at quiet oak maturation. A subtle mineral edge from tunnel aging completes the poised, polished nose.

Palate

Silky on the palate, with honeyed sweetness and soft vanilla evolving into light malt and toasted oak. Subtle orchard fruit and citrus peel weave through a gentle spice, delivering a balanced, medium-bodied mouthfeel that finishes clean, slightly dry, and refined.

Finish

Long, silky finish with creamy vanilla and honey weaving through gentle oak. A subtle mineral snap reinforces the tunnel-matured character, fading to warm spice and a soft, elegant echo that lingers gracefully on the palate.

Togouchi is the whisky name used by Sakurao Brewery and Distillery in Hiroshima. The company has made alcoholic drinks in Sakurao since 1918, established Sakurao Distillery in 2017, and released single malt Togouchi in 2021. The name comes from Togouchi, the mountain area now part of Akiota, where casks are matured in cellars and tunnel storage at the foot of Mount Osorakan rather than at the distillery itself.
