Founded in 2013 in urban Melbourne, Starward set out to create a consistent and approachable Australian whisky, designed to be cracked open and enjoyed with friends. Their bottlings are now available across the world, and they have fast become of the best known Australian whiskies.
Starward predominantly mature their whiskies in Australian Ex-Red Wine barrels, favouring Barossa Shiraz. The local area experiences high variance in temperature, moving through a range of up to 20c per day. Maturation in their winter months can be as fast as Scotland’s summers!

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with ruby-copper highlights, a wine-dark, warm glow.
Nose
Red-berry brightness—cherry, raspberry, and plum—lifts with vanilla and caramel oak. Ex-Barossa Shiraz influence brings fig and raisin hints, fused with cocoa nibs, toasted spice, and a whisper of clove. A warm, wine-forward nose with glossy fruit and polished, creamy oak.
Palate
Full, lush and fruit-forward, delivering black cherry, plum and dark berry cloaked in warm Barossa Shiraz–infused oak. Creamy vanilla and cocoa mingle with cinnamon and a soft peppery bite, while the 56% ABV offers confident warmth. The finish is long and elegantly-spiced, with red-wine tannin and a touch of charred oak lingering on the palate.
Finish
Long, red-fruit finish with blackberry and plum notes carried by toasted oak and vanilla. Spicy cinnamon and clove linger alongside cocoa and dark chocolate nuances, leaving a warm, mouth-coating glow and a soft, persistent tannic lift.
