Spirit of Yorkshire Filey Bay STR Red Wine Cask Single Malt Whisky
In stock
Shaved, toasted and re-charred ex-red wine casks provide a balanced and nuanced maturation, offering the ideal environment for the distillery’s light and creamy whisky to draw out delicious red-fruit flavours from the wood. Created using their bespoke oak solera method and bottled at 47.3% ABV, this release marks an exciting next step for the distillery.
Produced using a solera-style approach—more accurately described as a fractional blending method—each time Filey Bay STR Red Wine Cask is bottled, the whisky is replaced with casks carefully selected from the warehouse. This ensures a consistent flavour profile while allowing the whisky to gain age, depth and complexity.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep, warm amber with ruby-copper highlights.
Nose
Silky vanilla and creamy malt rise on the nose, with toasted oak and a whisper of char. Juicy red fruits—strawberry, cherry and plum—linger, threaded with wine-soaked depth from the ex-red wine cask. Gentle spice notes of cinnamon and clove mingle with cocoa undertones, while a polished sweetness and refined, creamy lift hint at the solera-inspired maturation.
Palate
Silky, creamy and light on the palate, with a fruit-driven core. Ripe red berries—cherry, cranberry and plum—are layered with vanilla, cocoa and toasted spice drawn from the shaved, re-charred red wine casks. Subtle tannins lend structure, finishing long with a warm, lingering fruit glow.
Finish
Silky, red-fruit driven finish that lingers with cherry and blackberry notes, carried by toasty red-wine oak. Creamy malt sweetness coats the palate, while subtle spice and a gentle tannic warmth ebb into a long, velvet afterglow.
