Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep burnished amber with coppery highlights and a whisper of mahogany.
Nose
Briny peat and sea-salt smoke rise at first, with iodine and a medicinal zest. Beneath, sherry-dark fruit—prune, fig, and raisin—melds with cocoa, toasted oak, and a touch of leather, all wrapped in warm peat and barley sweetness that hints at the Islay soul.
Palate
Velvety and warming, the palate unfolds in layers of sherried sweetness with dark fruit, plum and fig, mingled with Port Ellen’s signature peat and maritime smoke. Rich cocoa, espresso and treacle deepen the middle, while tantalizing iodine and sea-salt lift the finish. A supple, lingering mouthfeel with dusty spice and toasted oak, concluding in a long, elegant smoky-dry finish.
Finish
Long and haunting, smoky maritime peat unfurls and softens into rich sherry sweetness. Dried figs, cocoa dust and espresso echo on the palate, while orange zest and toasted oak lend lift. A saline, polished fade lingers with gentle warmth, fading to a velvet, resinous smoke that stays with you.
