Octomore The Character Of Islay - Wind & Wave Single Cask#10233 Whisky 10 Year Old · 2007 Vintage
In stock
A heavily peated single malt from the Bruichladdich Distillery, released under the Octomore name, bottled by The Character of Islay Whisky Company for The Stories of Wind & Wave series. The indie bottling range is all about showing off the brilliant whiskies from Islay, and this supremely smoky single malt is indeed fantastic. Interestingly, it was drawn from Chateau d'Yquem casks, introducing a touch of sweetness to the mix.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Gilded sun-gold with warm honey-amber depth and burnished copper edges.
Nose
Wall of peat smoke, briny sea air, iodine and ash ride a mineral backbone. Beneath, honeyed apricot, vanilla and a hint of candied fruit from the Chateau d'Yquem cask lend a sunny sweetness that softens the smoke, yielding a refined maritime perfume.
Palate
Powerful peat and sea spray push through a glaze of Yquem-derived sweetness—honeyed apricot, citrus marmalade and vanilla. Creamy, full-bodied texture; tropical fruit accents mingle with caramelized sugar, then a long, smoky finish tempered by saline coastal notes.
Finish
An epic, lingering finish of coastal peat and smoke, braided with honeyed apricot sweetness from the Yquem cask. Rich vanilla and almond give way to a silky oak-spice dryness, leaving a warm, resinous glow that lingers long after the sip.
