Mortlach Flora & Fauna Single Malt Scotch Whisky 16 Year Old
Out of stock
Flora and Fauna, nicknamed by the late whisky writer, Michael Jackson, was a themed series of distillery only single malt whisky releases. Each distillery was given a particular creature as its symbol, which is elegantly displayed on each bottle's beautiful label.
"A nose of sticky maple syrup, sharp sherried fruit, mulching grass and mint gives way to a rich taste of caramel, brittle toffee and polished wood. Underneath there is a smoky meatiness like slow roasted beef, and it's all capped with a touch of lightly floral lavender."
Mortlach doesn't get anywhere near the praise that it should, pretty much everything we've tasted so far has been excellent, A really good value for money dram in today's marketplace. Now completely discontinued as they prepare for some new standard release bottles for 2014.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with a coppery glow and a burnished mahogany edge, a warm, honeyed hue hinting at sherry-influenced richness.
Nose
Sticky maple syrup lingers with sharp sherried fruit, mulching grass and mint on the nose, unfolding into a gentle, smoky meatiness and a delicate whisper of lavender.
Palate
Caramel and brittle toffee cloak a polished-wood backbone, delivering a rich, luscious palate. A smoky meatiness, like slow-roasted beef, threads through the mid-palate, finishing with a lift of lavender.
Finish
Long and refined, the finish lingers with smoky, meaty depth softening into caramelized sweetness. Brittle toffee clings to polished oak while sherried fruit threads and a whisper of lavender drift away, leaving a warm, dusky glow that gradually fades.
