Only 3500 bottles released for the 2014 Feis Ile festival that takes place on Islay at the end of May each year and the limited special editions each distillery release are much saught after by collectors and lovers of islay malts alike as they always offer something a little bit different to the core range of releases. This offering from Lagavulin is from 100% Sherry casks and bottled at 19 years old at a mighty 54.7% abv.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep mahogany-amber with ruby-copper glints and a rich, dark edge.
Nose
Smoked hard cheese with orange peel kissed by bonfire ash, a peaty mincemeat core braided with peppery red and black berries soaked in sherry; incense wood, smoked walnuts, marmite and star anise lend savory depth to a resinous, lingering bouquet.
Palate
Peppery, tarry peat coats the palate, yielding smoked blackcurrant cordial, fruity liquorice, and soot-streaked mincemeat with mocha notes. A warm sherry glow lingers, finishing long, bold, and exquisitely smoky.
Finish
Smoked walnut whips give way to tarry, ashy peat and rich dark sherry, with incense-like spices, leathery notes, peppery mince pies, and a final kiss of smoked cheese.
