This is what Lagavulin looked like before the distillery came under Diageo’s Classic Malts range, produced when White Horse Distillers of Glasgow owned Lagavulin.
At 75 proof (43% ABV) this Lagavulin showcases the distillery’s classic Islay style - deep peat smoke, coastal salinity and a rounded, oily richness - in an older-school presentation that predates the modern Classic Malts era that we know today.

Colour
Deep amber-gold with a coppery shimmer and a whisper of mahogany along the edge.
Nose
Peat smoke and sea-salt lift from the glass, carrying iodine and a brisk maritime breeze. Beneath, a waxy, oily richness swells with old-fashioned malt, hints of leather and ash, and a touch of sweetness that lingers like sun-warmed peat.
Palate
An oily, mouth-coating texture carries bold peat smoke with sea-salt brine. Charred malt, iodine and a touch of sweetness meld through a waxy richness, unwinding into a long, warming finish of peppery oak and maritime smoke.
Finish
An enduring coastal finish of peat smoke and sea spray, lingering with briny iodine and a whisper of ash. The oil-rich core coats the palate, feeding a long, warming plume of medicinal peat that fades to saline sweetness and subtle oak spice, echoing the Islay shore long after the last drop.
