Ah, another super 'old style' bottling of the glorious Macallan 18 year old sherry cask. Distilled in 1969 and bottled in 1987. A slightly drier and more complex offering this one, quite leafy with fig, raisin and marmalade on the iniitial nose. The palate offers those classic sherried notes but also a touch herbal and with chewy tannins and cedar wood. There's a good finish to it with a nice spicy touch reminicent of nutmeg and ginger.

Nose

Refined and slightly drier, this nose opens with leafy depth, revealing fig and raisin notes intertwined with marmalade. The sherry sweetness is present but balanced, with whispers of herbal undertones and cedar that promise complexity and elegance.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
