Caol Ila Claxton's Single Cask Whisky 6 Year Old · 2012 Vintage
Out of stock
Distilled on 5th January 2012 and aged for 6 years in a single Hogshead cask (usually from Ex-Bourbon stock and about 250 litres in size, so slightly larger than the standard Ex-Bourbon barrel of 200 litres).
Plenty of complexity here for one so young, Islay's largest distillery at its most perfumed and creamy.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Bright amber-gold with a sunlit honey glow, a pale straw core that deepens to warm amber at the rim.
Nose
An almost soapy, floral opening, with green fruit—kiwi and gooseberry—peeking through aromatic, sooty peat smoke. Hints of singed herbs, lemongrass and salty sea air mingle with a perfumed, fragrant note.
Palate
Tart green fruit and lime marmalade ride a waxy, slightly soapy body, sharpened by peppery, sooty smoke. Subtle pickle juice and seaweed brine add briny depth, with late capsicum pepper heat tingling the palate.
Finish
Singed herbs and creamy Greek yoghurt fuse with waxy lime, anise and green peppers, carried on Caol Ila’s signature oily, floral peat smoke. A final whisper of salted celery sticks lingers.
