A Caol Ila single malt bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for the Connoisseurs Choice range, this 17 year old was distilled in 2007 and matured in a refill sherry butt before being bottled in 2025 at cask strength of 57.1% ABV, with only 404 bottles released.
Refill sherry maturation adds a layered sweetness and fruit depth that complements Caol Ila’s characteristic peated Islay personality. Expect maritime smoke and seaside salinity intertwined with richer notes from sherry influence, such as stewed fruit and gentle spice, with lingering bonfire embers and citrus zest on the finish.

Natural in colour, it glows a rich amber-gold with copper-bronze depth and a honeyed warmth.
Nose
Storm-touched peat and sea spray fuse with refined sherry sweetness. Caol Ila’s coastal iodine meets salted caramel, while stewed fruit and dried prunes soften into a gentle spice. Wisps of bonfire embers and citrus zest thread through the smoke, hinting at cask-strength depth and the sherry’s luscious, fruit-laden character.
Palate
Powerful, coastal and intensely peated, this opens with sea-salt freshness and a warming sherry sweetness. Layered notes of stewed plum and dried fig mingle with orange zest and gentle spice as the spirit expands on the palate. Maritime smoke remains central, braided with peppery char and a touch of cocoa, leading to a long ember-tinged finish with citrus and oak lingering.
